Park Geun-hye among the ordinary people

Park Geun-hye has been touring the nation and seeing people so that her right hand has got all sore and swollen (Chosun Ilbo). A major target on every politician's campaigning are the marketplaces, and Park's latest visit has been to the Taesin market in Yeongdeungpo. The local GNP people announced Park's arrival: "Here comes the representative (taep'yo) Park, the daughter of the late president Park Chung-hee!" ("고(故) 박정희 대통령의 따님인 박근혜 대표께서 오십니다!") 200여명의 군중이 환호하는 가운데 도착한 박 대표는 곧 대신시장 순방에 나섰다. 박 대표는 그 동안 계속된 지방투어에서 시민들과 악수를 나눈 탓에 부은 오른손에 붕대를 감고 이었다. 박 대표는 한 번이라도 더 악수를 나누려고 시민들이 내미는 손을 하나하나 마주 잡았다. 군중들 속에서 “아이고, 살살 만져!”, “너무 예쁘세요”, “손 아파서 어떡해요?” 등의 말들이 터져나왔다. 한 50대 여성은 “악수를 하고 싶어도 (박 대표의 손이) 아플까봐 못하겠다”며 안쓰러워하기도 했다.
